In the heart of Shoreditch’s vibrant Special Policy Area, Curtain Road has secured planning permission for a carefully considered transformation of a historic commercial site—one that respects the area’s rich heritage while anticipating the needs of modern urban living. Situated within Hackney’s conservation area, the proposal navigated sensitive planning constraints, alongside complex acoustic challenges arising from the area’s well-established late-night music scene
Pantelli were appointed following a judicial review of an earlier scheme, taking full responsibility for project management and cost consultancy. The approved design retains the existing façade and introduces additional floors, including a new sub-basement, to create a finely balanced mixed-use development. The scheme will provide ground-floor commercial space and four upper levels housing nine high-quality residential apartments, all served by a shared rooftop terrace offering views across Shoreditch.
Achieving planning consent in July 2025 represents a major step forward for this challenging site—reflecting a collaborative, strategic approach that responds to the character and complexity of its context.
